BioMEMS Appoints Heidi Coia, PHD to VP Product Development Post

August 8, 2026 – Bloomfield Hills, Michigan – BioMEMS Diagnostics, Inc., a Michigan-based developer of breakthrough medical diagnostics technology announced today that Dr. Heidi Coia, a noted life sciences innovator and medtech startup veteran, joins the Company as Vice-President – Product Development, and will direct and manage the transition of laboratory prototypes to full commercialization of the BioMEMS diagnostics platform. She will be working closely with Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Robert Bilkovski to coordinate with parallel regulatory and compliance activities, as well as CEO Andrew Dahl to implement commercialization imperatives.
Dr. Coia possesses 12+ years of direct experience in life sciences and biotechnology across complex cell culture systems, preclinical and translational research, biomanufacturing, and product development. She earned a B.S. in Biotechnology from the Rochester Institute of Technology, an M.S. in Biomedical Technology Development and Management from Virginia Tech, and a PhD in Cell Biology from Georgetown University. Dr. Coia was awarded a National Academies of Sciences postdoctoral fellowship to work at the Air Force Research Laboratory, where she introduced advanced organ-on-a-chip systems for gut-brain-axis and microbiome model research. Dr. Coia has worked in leadership and technical roles across six early and venture-stage startups, driving scientific innovation from R&D through validation, scale-up, and commercialization including GMP viral vector therapeutic and innovative biopolymer R&D product manufacturing.
As the Company moves forward with its development and manufacturing plans, Dr. Coia will lead that aspect of the Company’s operations, as well as take a leadership role in mapping out future products and product strategies. She joins a team of innovators and technical experts to bring the transformative BioMEMS Dx technology to fruition.
