Electrochemist / Analytical Chemist | BioMems Diagnostics

BioMEMS is developing an innovative point-of-care diagnostic device and analyzer for medical/biological testing. We're seeking a hands-on electrochemist or analytical chemist to drive iterative product improvement including assay development, sensor characterization, and device performance validation.
Responsibilities

Design, develop, and optimize electrochemical sensors/assays for a point-of-care diagnostic platform

Characterize sensor performance (sensitivity, specificity, reproducibility, stability) using electrochemical methods

Support integration of sensing chemistry with MEMS/microfluidic or lateral-flow device architecture

Perform and validate biofluid-based assays (e.g., ELISA) for clinical relevance

Maintain clear, auditable lab documentation and data records

Analyze experimental data, build automated data pipelines (Python), and report findings to cross-functional/remote teams

Prototype fixtures/consumables using 3D printing

Troubleshoot independently and propose creative solutions to novel technical problems

Work with vendors and manufacturers to ensure products and designs match specifications, cost and quality
Required Qualifications

MS in Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or related field (PhD preferred)

Hands-on experience with MEMS, lateral flow, or similar microfabricated/point-of-care diagnostic devices

Demonstrated independence, creativity, agility, self-motivation, and creative problem-solving in a lab R&D startup setting

Strong, auditable documentation and record-keeping practices

Proficiency with ELISA assay development and execution

Solid data analysis skills
Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with biofluid handling and processing

Familiarity with Python for data analysis/automation

Experience with 3D printing for rapid prototyping

Hands-on experience with PalmSens potentiostat/analyzer systems

Experience with silver nanoparticle synthesis

Experience with biological/biofluid assay development (blood, saliva, urine, etc.)

Experience collaborating effectively with distributed/remote teams
Work Environment
On-site laboratory role based in Ann Arbor, MI, supporting a fast-paced medical device diagnostics company. Close collaboration with remote engineering, business and product teams required.
Competitive salary ($130K base + bonus), benefits, and equity potential commensurate with experience.
