State Policy Priorities

Building a Stronger Future for Michigan’s Biosciences
Michigan’s biosciences industry is a powerful engine for economic growth, innovation, and improved patient outcomes. While historical investments helped establish the state as a national leader, continued momentum requires a clear vision and strategic action at the state policy level. MichBio works with legislators, policymakers, and industry leaders to create an environment that supports bioscience discovery, commercialization, workforce development, and access to care across all sectors of the bio-economy.
State Policy Priorities
Strengthen Michigan’s Bioscience Climate
We advance policies that attract investment, elevate Michigan’s bioscience profile, and strengthen manufacturing and supply chains across key sectors.
Incentivize Bioscience Innovation
We support targeted investment incentives, SBIR/STTR matching programs, and funding that accelerates early-stage research and commercialization.
Build a Strong Bioscience Workforce
We advocate for apprenticeships, specialized training, and talent retention strategies that support a skilled, future-ready workforce.
Protect Patient Access to Innovation
We champion policies that expand access to new treatments, reduce cost barriers, and support diagnostics, rare disease initiatives, and clinical trial participation.
ADVANCING MICHIGAN'S BIOSCIENCE INDUSTRY THROUGH LEGISLATIVE COLLABORATION

A key partner in advancing these priorities is the Michigan Bioscience Legislative Caucus — a bipartisan, bicameral group of state legislators committed to supporting Michigan’s bioscience industry. The Caucus provides a forum for education, collaboration, and dialogue between policymakers and the bioscience community.
Through briefings, industry engagement, and special events, the Caucus helps lawmakers better understand the opportunities and challenges facing Michigan’s biosciences sector, supporting informed policymaking that strengthens innovation and economic impact statewide.
