Stryker Corp. will expand capacity of its medical-device products manufacturing facilities with a $109 million investment at its 79-acre industrial site in southwest Michigan that will create 260 jobs, according to the Michigan Economic Development Corp.

The Michigan Strategic Fund on Tuesday approved a $2.6 million performance-based grant to support the expansion.

Stryker plans to expand the company's 433,000 square-foot facility in Portage, in Kalamazoo County, by another 253,000 square feet, with the investment and jobs being created by the end of 2025. Average annual salary for those positions is expected to be $73,000, the MEDC said in a news release.

Construction is expected to begin this fall and be completed by the end of 2020.

The Stryker investment comes on the heels of a $1 million performance-based grant approved through the MSF more than a year ago, said Mike Gietzen, MEDC development finance manager. That previous grant led to the creation of 105 jobs and a company investment of more than $130 million.
