Pfizer Means $2.2 Billion, 5,680 Jobs to Kalamazoo Area, Study Finds

PORTAGE, MI – The work done at Pfizer's huge manufacturing plant in Portage continues to be a big deal for the giant drug maker's business worldwide, company executives said Thursday.

But its impact on the region -- all of Kalamazoo and Van Buren counties -- is a massive $2.2 billion, according to a new economic impact study.

"While Pfizer employs 2,202 colleagues (workers), its activities also support more than an estimated 1,200 supplier jobs," according to an economic impact analysis done for Pfizer Inc. by James Robey, director of Regional Economic Planning Services for the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research.
