Lisa McLaughlin, MSI/MSW

Co-Founder & CEO, Workit Health

Lisa McLaughlin is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Workit Health, the world’s first online addiction care program. A fierce advocate of wellness and wellbeing programs and a visionary in delivering technical solutions to behavioral challenges, Lisa has been working on behalf of risky alcohol and drug users for nearly fifteen years. Lisa worked directly with high-risk populations in Utah, providing counseling, and is also well-versed in research, having spent significant time at the University of Michigan Addiction Research Center. Lisa’s most recent formal education paired her commitment to this community with her desire for innovative sources of change – a joint Master of Science in Information and Master of Social Work degree, earned at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 2008.

After completing her graduate work, Lisa joined the Bay Area’s edtech startup community. Rising through the ranks at the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME), she became both the Open Educational Resources (OER) Commons Manager and the Senior Director of Product Innovation. She followed this achievement with a stint as the Senior Director of Partnerships at Gooru Learning in Palo Alto. Continuing to participate in research, Lisa published a variety of reports, including those commissioned by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the United States Department of Education. Lisa brings the technical fluency acquired in these positions to her enduring commitment to serve individuals in need of alcohol and substance use treatment.

Since co-founding Workit Health in January 2015, Lisa has co-led the company while maintaining an active speaking schedule. She guided Workit to winning the IT Sector Award at the Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition in 2015, and has since shared her insights in diverse panel and conference settings. She has spoken persuasively in favor of more sophisticated wellness programming, and is an outspoken advocate for young women in tech.

Lisa’s business acumen, development experience, and social work policy know-how culminate in an expertise in health promotion.
