SmartZones™

Michigan SmartZone™ Network
This statewide network connects universities, research organizations and corporations to stimulate the growth of technology-based businesses and jobs. SmartZones™ provide distinct geographical locations where technology-based firms, entrepreneurs and researchers locate in close proximity to all of the community assets that assist in their endeavors. In fact, some of the SmartZones are the above listed life science incubators. New and emerging businesses in SmartZone technology clusters are primarily focused on commercializing ideas, patents and other opportunities surrounding corporate, university or private research institute R&D efforts.

Economic Development Organizations

The first stop for anyone interested in bioscience business growth in Michigan should be:
Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC)
The MEDC offers business assistance services, capital programs, talent and workforce development and other resources for business attraction and acceleration. MichBio collaborates with the MEDC on a number of activities and initiatives to the benefit of Michigan's bio-industry.
Also, MichBio works with many key local and regional economic development agencies to help in the establishment, retention, expansion and recruitment of bioscience businesses. These economic development groups engage in site selection assistance, entrepreneurial venture support, business attraction and expansion, and business-to-business connections. They help drive economic growth in regions throughout the state. MichBio supports their efforts with advice, bio-industry information, connections, and resources.
