Stryker Breaks Ground on New Portage Facility Monday

PORTAGE, MI--Stryker's groundbreaking of its $154 million research and development facility in Portage will draw noted corporate and political big names on Monday.

The groundbreaking ceremony for media and special guests at the site of its new 75-acre development will begin at 10:30 a.m. with speakers offering remarks at 11:30 a.m. and the traditional shovel ceremony at 12:15 p.m.

Remarks will be offered by Stryker CEO Kevin Lobo, Instruments Division President Spencer Stiles, Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, U.S. Rep. Fred Upton and Portage Mayor Pete Strazdas.

The project, expected to be completed in late 2019, will include a 485,000-square-foot facility that will feature a customer experience center, functioning showroom, and R&D and bio-skills labs. It will also have space for sales, marketing and support functions.

Officials said the new facility will "foster innovation by encouraging collaboration and communication among product and marketing teams."  It is expected to added 105 new jobs.

The event will be at 6200 Portage Road. The site is bordered by Portage Road, Lovers Lane, Ramona Avenue and Milham Avenue.
