MichBio was featured in a news roundup in the China Daily, a state-run, English-language daily newspaper published in China and satellite offices in the United States and elsewhere.
The photo op was taken at the Oakland County- China Medical Business Forum held on May 20 at the Detroit Marriott Troy in Troy, Michigan. A high-level delegation from the Taizhou National Medical Hi-Tech Development Zone or China Medical City (CMC) visited Oakland County to develop stronger commercial ties between the two regions.
The event was co-hosted by Oakland County Medical Main Street and the Detroit Chinese Business Association. MichBio CEO Stephen Rapundalo was an invited guest as were a number of MichBio member companies including ViaDerm, First Sense Medical, Beaumont Health, SciTech Development and MichMer.
The audience heard from Dr. Winter Jia, CMC Deputy Directorwho described the composition and mission of the Zone. It includes integrated functional areas in R&D, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing, exhibition and trade, healthcare services, advanced education and other supportive functions and facilities. The CMC was pitched as the ideal place for U.S. biomedical companies to expand in China.
The Zone also includes a regional office of the China FDA, and Ms. Wang Linlin, gave a detailed presentation on the regulatory processes necessary for pharmaceutical and medical device review and approval that foreign companies must pursue to enter the Chinese market.
The CMC has attracted a number of top high-tech enterprises and small-medium sized companies. Major multi-national firms like Astra Zeneca, Takeda, Boehringer Ingelheim, Sanofi and Nestle have established facilities there. Michigan-based bioscience companies interested in expanding to China are urged to contact MichBio at firstname.lastname@example.org who can make the necessary connections with the China Medical City.
