Rapundalo: Chilling Ramifications for MI Agriculture Economy

Michigan’s agricultural economy could soon feel the sweeping ramifications of a law passed by Vermont if the U.S. Senate fails to act to prevent this small Northeastern state’s mandatory, on-package GMO labeling law from taking effect. In the absence of action, the federal government will essentially cede control of national food labeling policy to a state of less than 600,000 residents. Vermont’s food labeling law is about to become the de facto law of the land, and there seems to be very little Michigan farmers and food producers can do about it.
