Ann Arbor-based NSF Acquires Provider of DNA Testing for Raw Materials in Products

Ann Arbor-based NSF International has acquired AuthenTechnologies, a provider of next-generation, DNA-based species identification services for an undisclosed amount.

Southfield-based investment banking and venture capital firm Cascade Partners served as financial adviser to NSF, and Barnes & Thornburg LLP in Grand Rapids as a legal adviser.

With the acquisition, NSF, a nonprofit provider of auditing, testing and certification services for the dietary supplement, natural product and food industries, said it will be able to offer the most advanced DNA testing technology available to authenticate the raw materials in products, providing retailers and manufacturers the best method for reducing the risk of mislabeling products.
