On June 9th, 2015, MichBio in Ann Arbor, MI, held a networking event for all aspiring women in the bio sciences. Students from WSU were encouraged to go and participate in this great networking opportunity.
The conference was a half day workshop that entailed various panel discussions which included conversation about:
1. Positioning oneself in today’s marketplace.
2. The experiences female entrepreneurs have had living their life as woman entrepreneurs.
3. Leadership and the kinds of lessons that are learned in a position of leadership.
One PhD student from Wayne State University attended the MichBio half day event and was kind enough to share her insight on this networking opportunity.
Elisabeth Steel, Doctoral Candidate in Biomedical Engineering stated, "Attending the MichBio conference on Women Building Success in Biosciences not only gave me the chance to connect with women in the region but also gave me food for thought as I develop my 5 year plan – there are so many opportunities in SE Michigan from academia and industry to entrepreneurship. I was able to make a connection in each of those sectors. Now is an exciting time to be a woman in STEM in Michigan!”
