Goal is to create companies in Southeast Michigan

The Henry Ford Innovation Institute is accepting applications for 20 spots in a free, nine-month program aimed at commercializing innovative health care technologies.

The second annual Davidson Fellowship in Digital Health begins Sept. 11 and is open to health system employees and other would-be entrepreneurs who think they have a product or idea to solve a medical problem.

Professional medical experience is not required.

The program takes place one Friday a month for nine months at the institute, which is on the health system’s main campus in Detroit.

Participants will be put on teams to try to commercialize what are considered to be the few best of the original 20 ideas.

They will be taught how to protect intellectual property, define market needs, hone a business plan, refine a pitch for equity capital and what regulatory hurdles or impediments there might be, with the eventual goal of creating for-profit businesses in Southeast Michigan.

For more details and to apply, visit The deadline is July 10.
