MSU: New Building Will Plant Seeds for Collaborative Research

When Michigan State University’s new plant science facility opens for business in 2012, it will be more than just a building connecting two existing buildings. It will serve as a bridge between two scientific disciplines whose mission is to help produce more and better quality food.

Ground was broken for the new $43 million facility April 16. It will eventually serve as home to a diverse group of researchers and students.

U-M, Grand Valley Sign Pharmacy College Admissions Agreement

The presidents of the University of Michigan and Grand Valley State University signed an agreement establishing a program that offers preferred admission into the U-M doctoral pharmacy program to a small number of promising Grand Valley freshmen.

The U-M College of Pharmacy will reserve up to eight positions annually in its four-year PharmD doctoral program for admittance of Grand Valley freshmen who complete a rigorous undergraduate program of pre-pharmacy coursework and other requirements. The initiative is called the Pharmacy Preferred Admission Program.

Velesco Pharmaceutical Services Receives Two Honors

Velesco Pharmaceutical Services, a contract research organization in the pharmaceutical drug development industry, has been recognized as one of the 2010 “Michigan 50 Companies to Watch,” an awards program sponsored by the Edward Lowe Foundation.  Additionally, Southwest Michigan First recognized Velesco with a “Catalyst Award” for creating jobs and economic success in the Kalamazoo Region in 2009.

Molecular Innovations, Inc. (Novi, MI) has been awarded grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to adapt their Human Prorenin ELISA Kit (Catalog Number HPRENKT) to a multiplex format for clinical use.

Altarum Institute Has New Center for Studying Health Spending

Altarum Institute President and CEO Lincoln Smith today announced the formation of the Altarum Institute Center for Studying Health Spending.
