Biosciences is BIG Business in Michigan.
That was the conclusion of recent studies released by BIO/Battelle
and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), which
concluded that “Michigan has the assets to support and grow bioscience,
particularly in the presence of its major research universities.” The academic
bioscience R&D expenditures totaled $1.2 billion in fiscal 2012 with industry
payrolls reaching nearly $2.5 billion for the same period.
Michigan is home to over 600 bioscience companies that employ
~40,000 in the pharmaceutical, medical device, diagnostics and testing labs, bio-agriculture,
food/nutriceuticals, bio-based products, bio energy, informatics and health IT, academic/clinical research and product distribution. The state’s contract research sector alone has the
depth to handle business from across the globe at any stage of development. And MichBio is your gateway to accessing our entire biosciences community.
